There once was a man who worked hard at being a good man
each day so that he could feel himself to be truly holy.
He filled each moment with good works and was very hard
on himself in every way, always suspicious of sin and
shortcomings in himself, although he would soon enough
forgive this in others.
After fifty years or more, there once came a night where
he found himself outside, beneath a canopy of wondrous
stars, and finally he sat and listened, and finally, his
heart did open, and on this starry night for the first
