Song Lyrics
Hitchhikers
by Silvia Hartmann
Directionless driving,
distances distort
in everlasting stretch of road.
Alone in my car
I listen to the stranger
who rides beside me
but the words he speaks
are not in tongue.
Hitchhikers are dangerous,
my mother said,
their aim may be strange
their purposes corrupt
and why are they alone,
and on the road tonight?
I've hitched myself
a thousand times
but now the car is mine
so I sometimes offer shelter
to weary travellers
marooned upon their road
Directionless driving
distance distort
in everlasting stretch of road
Alone in my car
I listen to the stranger
who ride beside me
but the words that he speaks
are not my tongue,
but the words that he speaks
I can't understand.
