On a dusty plane
I felt your approach
like the thunder and vibration
of a galloping horse.
My heart beat louder
my fear grew stronger
and my courage faltered
at your approach.
But I stood my ground
until the stallions eyes of fire
and flaring nostrils
filled my soul.
As the hooves struck deadly
I smiled in triumph
and lay with broken heart
as you continued on your way.
